What are you doing all day long in Thailand?

Most of us expats living in Thailand are either fully retired or for other reasons not at all or not fully in worklife. That means we got a lot of time.

Some feel like they're doing time and waste away drinking etc.

Others have found something to do like hobbies or whatever; they don't feel bored at all.

In those eighteen years over here I had different phases. The first 7 years I still liked to do some work as teacher. Salaries were so low that you didn't have any competion for those jobs. I got around different schools colleges, slowing down the amount of teaching gradually.

Then I had my reading phase, consumed about everything I could get written in my languages. And of course I did listen to music a lot. Still living in town then, going out every day, looking at things. But then we build a new house 20 km from the city. The first few years I did quite a lot of work in the garden. Besides we have pets: fishes, birds, cats and a dog. All that gets kinda boring after a few years.

Computer, the first years without internet, is a lot of fun; since almost two years I manage to get internet, too. Wow, another world! But on the other hand, what distinguishes me from a couch potato now? I'm hooked. Not so active anymore, don't move enough, get sick easily . ..

Tell me how you manage to stay in shape and active!Icon_smile What you're doing in your "time".

RE: What are you doing all day long?

Previously I ran a few businesses and did some teaching for a while. I spend a lot of time on the internet these days, around 10 hours a day. I try to get away for a few days when there is a long weekend as you really do need a break from the traffic and pollution of Bangkok. I try to stay in shape by going swimming every now and then when I get the opportunity

RE: What are you doing all day long in Thailand?

I am retired and have built a home for me and the family in a Thai village Phitsanulok Province. I get up about 7am or there abouts. Get the coffee ,go to my spot on the front porch and do my yoga stretching exercises for maybe an hour, have my oatmeal there play with my BangKeaow dog for a bit.
After that I go to my air con room and turn on the computer and I'll mess with that thing for maybe 10 hours off and on.
We have one small town 18 kilos from us and another 30 kilos. They have small markets where we shop for fresh veges and fruits and buy our meats. Go to one or the other 3 or 4 times a week.
The wife and me take a 4 mile walk most every evening at 5pm, this usually takes 1 1/2 hours and then when we get back I cool down and go hit the internet some more until the little lady brings in my dinner. I love to read books and when not on the computer or otherwise engaged I am reading some thing.
Also about once a month the wife and I drive down to Phitsanulok ( 120 kilos ) away from the village. We like to indulge in falang food , shop at Big C or Tesco, get massages, maybe stay the nite in nice hotel. Its always a treat to take a little break from the village life.
Most of my adult life,in the states, was in high profile stressful work, so I really enjoy my life of liesure.
I have to say I love Thailand a lot and I am most happy here. Have no intentions of going back to the land of Oz.
