At least 13 people have been killed and about 30 injured in a bus crash in eastern Germany, police say.
The bus veered off a motorway and fell into a roadside ditch near the city of Halle, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Some reports say the bus - which was carrying 48 elderly people - was hit by a lorry, but the cause of the crash is still being investigated by police.

Five rescue helicopters flew in to take some of the injured to nearby hospitals in Halle and Magdeburg.

The accident occurred at about 1345 local time (1145 GMT), police say.

The bus was registered in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
