The Thai Alphabet

The Thai alphabet uses forty four consonants and fifteen basic vowel characters and over the next 44 days I will post all the consonants followed by the vowel characters

Remember that Thai is alphabetic, so pronunciation of a word is independent of its meaning, you basically pronounce the word as you would read it, except the vowels may appear before, above or below a letter

This should be interesting. That`s a LOT of letters in the alphabet, compared to English.

Yep there are a lot but quite a few are not used that often, just the main ones. The other reason that there are so many, as there are letters not just for C but CH as well, T, TH etc.

When we went to Denmark some years ago we saw letters on road signs and elsewhere that we just didn`t recognise. The reason is that the Danish alphabet has 29 letters.

A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z Æ Ø Å
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z æ ø å

The Danish alphabet has a total of 29 letters:
9 vowels (a,e,i,o,u,y,æ,ø,å) and
20 consonants

Notice the 3 special Danish letters: æ ø å

Keyboards for computers must be different there to accommodate the additional letters. That then made me think about the keyboard you use, Phil. Is it in English or Thai?
