The PM's Office has decided to withdraw a civil lawsuit seeking 18 million baht in damages from the People's Alliance for Democracy, whose supporters seized and occupied Government House for six months last year.

PM's Office lawyer Meti Jaisamut said Monday the decision was made because "the causes of the troubles have come to an end''.

The office would officially ask the Civil Court to withdraw the lawsuit today, Mr Meti said.

The PM's Office filed the suit against the PAD on Jan 9 demanding 18 million baht in compensation for the damage caused to its premises and for the loss of office and personal property during the occupation of the compound of Government House by PAD demonstrators.

Other offices located in the compound, including the National Security Council, have not lodged damages suits with the court against the PAD.

The PAD vacated Government House in December after its six-month rally against the governments which it said were proxies of Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted as prime minister in a coup in September 2006.

Cabinet ministers and officials could now perform their duties at Government House and traffic conditions on all roads in the area have returned to normal, said Mr Meti.

"The government no longer has any reason to lodge a complaint with the court,'' he said.

However, key PAD leaders could still face criminal charges over their occupation of Government House and the blockade of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. The cases are being investigated by police.

Obviously the current govt is a puppet administration of the PAD and others
