Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will lead a number of Premier League clubs in the hunt for Lukas Podolski after the German striker handed in a transfer request at Bayern Munich. Podolski has scored 31 goals in 60 games for his country, including three during Euro 2008 that helped Germany to the final, but he is not a first-team regular in Munich and insists he will move in the January transfer window.

"I have made my mind up that I would like to leave the club in the winter," said the 23-year-old. "I have already told the management."

Podolski's strike-partner for Germany, Miroslav Klose, also leads the line at Bayern, with support from the Italian Luca Toni. The American forward Landon Donovan is due to arrive at the club in the new year to provide further competition in attack.

Podolski was one of numerous strikers linked with Spurs in the summer after Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov left the club, but Bayern opted to keep him. But the new manager Harry Redknapp could revive Tottenham's interest in signing him to compliment Darren Bent, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fraizer Campbell.

Manchester City were also once thought to be pursuing Podolski and his availability will surely be of interest to other Premier League clubs. His former side Cologne, whom he left in 2006 having scored 46 goals in 81 appearances, have first option to re-sign the player, should Bayern accept the transfer request.
