A "living sculpture" is being created in Brighton depicting a tree growing from the palm of a human hand.

The lottery-funded project, called In Our Hands, has seen sculptor Kathryn Jordan and artist Cliff Wright creating a look and design over the past month.

Their finished work will go on display next spring in the Valley Gardens area of Brighton town centre.

Drought-tolerant plants are being used to sculpt a human torso, head and arm coming out of the ground.

An outstretched hand features a Wollemi Pine tree growing out of it.

"Sitting the tree in the hand illustrates just how precious it is, and how conservation is in our hands," said Ms Jordan.

The work is being overseen by Brighton and Hove Arts Commission and the city council.
