People Power more popular than Democrat: survey

Quote:People in Bangkok and nearby provinces have more faith in the People Power Party than in Democrats to solve economic and social problems, a new poll says.

But, Abac Poll Research Centre found seven out of 10 people were not confident either party could make a difference.

Centre director Noppadon Kannika said when pressed to make a choice, 30 per cent believed People Power would do a better job in money matters. Just 22.5 per cent believed the Democrats could solve the economy.

Likewise, 31.5 per cent of voters favour People Power when it comes to social difficulties and just 18 per cent the Democrats, he said.

When it comes to political reform and conflict, a 20percentstrong group opts for either People Power or the Democrats.

But, a little more than 80 per cent did not believe in either, Noppadon said.

Additionally, the survey showed 34 per cent agreed with former members of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai joining People Power - 17 per cent disagreed and 49 per cent had no comment.

But, 70 per cent of people identifying themselves as not supporting the military-backed government, agreed with the move.

Nearly 81 per cent was not interested in joining the party, but 19.5 per cent was.

The survey was conducted on Friday and Saturday with 2,135 respondents in and around Bangkok.

RE: People Power more popular than Democrat: survey

why am i not surprised. the only reason the democrats are so 'cool' with this coup is because, being the hypocrites that they are, they knew without it there was no way they would get the be the government no matter how many times we have an election. if they were true to their word, and boycotted last year's election because the premise of it was an unacceptable dissolution of parliament (though the law allows the PM to do such a thing), then they should boycott this one too since it came about through acts of TREASON. for god's sake stop calling this a 'reform'. its a COUP.

RE: People Power more popular than Democrat: survey

I've been trying to figure out a couple of things that could prove very interesting in the future. While the Junta has done it's best to fragment the TRT some interesting things have happened. Some TRT MP's moved very early to other parties and the bulk moved to people power recently. Now if all the old TRT MP's that are allowed to run happen to win and ones running under PP do as well. The ones that jumped to parties other than People Power can move to another party (PPower) as elected MP's under Thai law. This could prover very interesting as they may have enough MP's under this scenario to take over the house as the majority. This may draw another coup instantly, but listen on. Like the TRT or not this would be very good for Thailand, especially if they brought charges against the now CNS and prosecuted them for taking over the country. Having some weak coalition with the Democrats and some other party/parties is not what Thailand needs. The Demos lost my respect when they whined and complained and boycotted, we know they could not win an election, fair or not. They have not had a platform for years but this may be their only chance to get into power and get their share of the pot back before they trash the economy again.
