Sad Number 1 Cause of Death in Thailand

Does any body have a cue as to why we cant reduce the death rate while driving in ThailandIcon_neutral. I know they have a DMV with a school outside of Korat. I spent the whole day there. BTW is the white line used to center the car or bus on the road. Icon_rolleyes
Of course if the police were a little more active and paid better to do professional work, I think this would help.Icon_eek
Any other Ideas ??????Icon_question

RE: Number 1 cause of Death.

No one in charge seems to care. Modern roads system with no effective infrastructure, total chaos. Incompetence. Lost cause.

RE: Number 1 cause of Death.

I would say that drink driving is the major problem and also no respect for the road laws. Unfortunately and sadly it seems to be almost an acceptable practice to drink and drive, esp. in the provinces Icon_sad

Did you also find out why everybody is given a driver's licence at the end of the day?

You go there with your own car, or a friend's car etc. First you try to take the test. After failing they show you what you did wrong and test you on that again. Again and again until you pass having done everything correctly just one time (in I-don't-know-how-many-tests). The fee for that "instruction" is calculated by the number of wheels you want a driver's licence for: Motorcycle=2, Car/pickup=4 etc. I was told five years ago it was 200 Baht per wheel. I don't know the current price.

There are motoring schools but due to that practise who goes and pays for them? Everybody tells himself that he can learn to drive later by practicing it. So what you have on thai roads are mostly learners without the L affixed to their vehicle etc. to alert others on the road to the danger.Icon_eek

"Brandmarking" new drivers for the first year or so as newbies would already do a lot. That way they could really learn without having to pretend from the second day on to be experienced drivers. Then they had a chance of really "getting control".
