New Australian Citizenship Test

Wannabe Aussie fails citizenship test

Only one person had so far failed the new Australian citizenship test on its first day of operation, the Federal Government said today.

More than 30 people were expected to sit the test today in Queensland and Victoria, with most states observing a public holiday.

From today, prospective citizens must correctly answer 12 of 20 questions covering Australia's history, traditions, geography and government.

A spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said the feedback so far today had been positive.

"So far everyone has come back saying it's a lot easier than they expected and they're all very happy,'' she said.

"Everyone's passed except for one person who got a high percentage but failed on one of the values questions.''

Final figures on today's pass and fail rate were expected to be available tonight.

Although aspiring citizens can pass with a 60 per cent mark, there are three so-called "values questions'' which must be answered correctly in order to acquire citizenship.

The test can be undertaken as many times as needed to pass.

The Government has refused to make the test questions public.

The questions are supposed to be chosen from a pool of 200, but the Government today admitted many had not yet been finalised.

Mr Andrews' spokeswoman said it would be at least seven weeks before all 200 questions were ready.

"We're ahead of schedule for the questions. They need to be specifically developed to make sure that the questions are properly worded and clearly understandable,'' she said.

RE: New Australian Citizenship Test

But i do think the citizenship test is a very good thing to have in place as it make the people who want to be Aussie know more about Aussie. I also know why well think i know why the Government has refused to make the test questions public as then people here would help the wannabe Aussies with the test.
