The measurements come from people running the Netcraft Anti-Phishing toolbar, which is not totally unknown.

I think it counts unique visitors on a 24 hour basis and compares to other sites. Usually you get a new value on Tuesday morning, sometimes after only three days if an unusual interest in your site was detected. I noticed jumps in between the weeks usually three days after having my site recommended in the thai-ticker newsletter (more than 3,000 readers). My site is still climbing, slowly but steadily, especially since the Netcraft toolbar was recommended there in an extremely often read thread (2,629 views on http://www.korat-info.com/forum/viewtopi...f=22&t=155 ).
