MySpace teen party rampage

A TEENAGER who issued an open invitation on MySpace to a party at his family's house is unrepentant after sparking a rampage by up to 500 youths.

Police were pelted with bottles, after Corey, 16, acted out every parent's nightmare by staging the party while they were holidaying in Queensland.

But he is answering to more than just mum and dad after Saturday night's debacle.

Terrified neighbours in Narre Warren South said they feared for their families and homes as a sea of drunken youths lured by the open invitation on the social networking website smashed bottles and destroyed letterboxes.

Police, who estimated the crowd at 500, had to retreat until back-up arrived, including the air wing and the dog squad. Corey told the Herald Sun he was expecting 200. He conceded large amounts of alcohol were consumed by the young crowd.

"It was just an open house party and a lot of people came and it overflowed on to the street," Corey said.

"The cops came and told all the people to quiet down and get inside. It just kept getting bigger and bigger.

"There were people bottling cars and the whole streets were flooded with people. We knew we'd get about 200 but there was probably about 300, 400 easily."

Linda Guillou, who has lived in Galloway Drive for seven years, said she feared for her two children after teens spilled on to her front lawn. She said her husband armed himself with a cricket bat.

Mrs Guillou called police after a bird bath in her garden was kicked over.

"The second time we notified the police we were starting to get a little bit frightened for the children because things were getting broken."

Rose Layton, a grandmother who lives nearby, was shocked by the rampage.

"They were going to the toilet out the front, throwing bottles and jumping on cars," Mrs Layton said.

"There was such a mass of them. We were terrified."

Police said the party was out of control.

"We're really lucky none of our officers were injured," Sen-Sgt Russell Patten said. "You've got criminal damage, discharging missiles and conduct endangering persons."

Corey's parents cut short their holiday and are expected home today.

Josh, 16, who was at the party, claimed police inflamed the situation when they tried to break up the crowd.

"Everyone was just here to have a bit of fun and then the cops came and stuffed everything up," he said.

Things got worse when a youth paraded naked in front of the media at the house yesterday.

Victoria Police have seized tapes from TV news crews and are investigating possible charges against the man after he ran down the street with no clothes on.

RE: MySpace teen party rampage

MYSPACE party boy Corey has gone to ground as his wild Narre Warren party makes headlines around the world after enraging his parents and Victorian police.

The BBC, CNN and The Guardian have reported on the boozy Saturday night party that could still see the Delaney family hit with a $20,000 bill from police.

As Jo and Stephen Delaney returned to their home, vowing to discipline their 16-year-old son, Corey was nowhere to be seen.

He said earlier that he wasn't keen to face the music and planned to dodge his parents for as long as possible.

"I don't answer their calls, I just hang up. When they get home, I'm not going to be home," he said.

Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon has warned the couple they could be made to pay for their son's mistake.

"I have certainly called for a report to look at the costs involved and whether there is a way to recoup our cost, particularly around police vehicles being damaged," Ms Nixon said.

Mr and Ms Delaney cut short their Gold Coast holiday yesterday to confront their son.

The couple were livid that Corey betrayed their trust by throwing a party at their Narre Warren home that spun out of control when a rioting mob of up to 500 youths pelted officers with rocks and bottles, and smashed police cars.

"We're absolutely disgusted that he could do this, not only to us but to our neighbourhood," Ms Delaney said.

"We organised for him to stay with a friend – not at our home – and obviously Corey's gone behind our backs and decided somewhere along the line to throw a party."

Mr Delaney said he was so angry he had barely spoken to Corey, his stepson, who posted an open invitation to the party on MySpace.

"He won't speak to us and you can understand why, because I think he knows what's coming," Mr Delaney said.

"We've had a lot of family and friends trying to talk to him to make him understand what he's done. He seems very blase about it.

"He's got to start to show some remorse. We're a family that's extremely upset."

Corey did tell the Herald Sun yesterday he was sorry for the damage caused to neighbouring homes.

"I do feel sorry for everyone in the area," Corey said.

"It was really unfair what happened to them and that people were throwing bottles and breaking stuff. I'm sorry that it all happened."

Ms Nixon lectured the Delaneys for leaving Corey unsupervised.

"When all else fails, you are their parent, not their best mate."

But Corey said he didn't think his family should pay the police bill.

Corey said police in bullet-proof vests told the partygoers inside the Galloway Drive home not to leave the house as hundreds of drunken teens rampaged outside.

"There was nothing I could do to stop the people outside," he said.

"If it was on my property or in my house, I'd have stopped it.

"But because it was up the street and the cops made us stay inside, forced us to stay inside and locked the door on us, we weren't allowed out.

"We did everything they told us to do."

After speaking to his mother by phone, Corey said: "She wanted to know first thing if the house was all right and if the animals were all right, that they didn't get away.

"She said, 'All your mates and you have made a fool of yourself'."

Corey said he knew only 100 of the 500 youths who turned up.

Police have spoken to Corey's father, who lives in China.

Mr Delaney said the speed news of a teen party could spread on the net was frightening.

"It's scary, it's a major problem," he said.

Police had to call for back-up, including the dog squad and the police helicopter, in a response Ms Nixon estimated at $20,000.

"I was shocked and appalled by their reaction and disturbed that my members had to deal with such a volatile situation in a quiet suburban street," she said.

"These were 16-year-olds, with no supervision and access to large quantities of alcohol – a recipe for disaster."

Ms Nixon warned criminal charges could follow.

"We're still investigating the matter," she said.

Party boy Corey plans international tour

TEENAGE party pest Corey Delaney plans an international tour this year in his quest for stardom.

Delaney, who made worldwide headlines when he threw a wild party at his parents' outer-suburban home while they were on a holiday, will tour Britain in July or August.

And next month the "brat from the 'burbs" will warm up for the British tour by taking "Corey's Party Tour" to Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

Celebrity agent Max Markson said he was also talking to US party organisers and clothing labels about a possible tour there.

"He's probably the world's No.1 party boy right now," Mr Markson said. "Kids think he's a legend.

"He is the modern hero of the modern generation and the teen market and he is going to be huge in the next year so we need to get him out to the world."

Mr Markson, who will take 20 per cent of any profits, said Delaney would tour London and English holiday towns such as Brighton, Torquay and Blackpool as a party promoter and DJ.

Delaney is scheduled to host a private party for about 100 people in Melbourne tonight. Then he'll throw one in Sydney on February 23 and in Brisbane on March 8.

The Melbourne leg of his party tour is scheduled for March 21 - his 17th birthday.

Delaney could not be contacted yesterday. But his MySpace page said he was "ready to party" and posted his mood as "flirty". And next to an online advertisement for his party tour, he wrote, "The glasses are not coming off".

Delaney also has become an internet star - his face appears in dozens of images and jokes.

Asked if she was worried about the success of the tour, his mother Jo said, "I don't have anything to say about it at this stage".

Mr Markson said his client would start training this week to be a DJ.

"He's said to me if it doesn't work out he will go out and get a job," Mr Markson said.

"Any parent would love to have him as a son."
