IE 7 to be pushed as a security patch

Microsoft will push Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) for Windows XP as a high priority security patch through Automatic Updates later this year.

The company announced last week that the security enhancements in the new browser version warranted the move.

"Internet Explorer 7 contains significant security enhancements that qualify it for delivery over Automatic Updates, and Microsoft recommends that all genuine Windows customers install it," a company spokesperson said in a statement last week.

Unlike many Automatic Updates, the company will give users the choice not to install IE 7. It is also making available a free tool for enterprises to use that can block users from seeing the IE 7 options and preventing Automatic Updates from installing the browser.

True, Eggy, IE always seems to be playing `catch-up` when it comes to closing holes. One reason they get targetted so much is the fact they are still the biggest, though the gap may now be closing a little. Firefox is good, though, but IE still has to be used for certain sites which won`t work on FF.

Yeah your right, it seems they got so big and popular they kinda just gave up trying to make it better, i mean why should they? there already automactically on every computer, and all websites were originally configured to work with them. At this rate the others will be taking over though unless they get there act together.
