BELGRADE (AFP) - Along with used books, second-hand computers, radios and sports equipment, a human skull went on sale at a Belgrade flea market but found no buyers, Beta news agency reported Friday.


The seller, who insisted on remaining anonymous, fixed a price of 100 euros (146 dollars) for the skull he had allegedly found in a closet he was given.

Although many visitors stopped by his stand for a look, few were interested in buying the curiosity.

"There are no real buyers, people only ask the price. I've been trying to sell it for ten days," he said of the skull he claimed originally belonged to Belgrade's Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Based on a photo of the skull, pathologist Suzana Matejic estimated it was probably more than 50 years old and said there were signs proving it had been treated by pathologists.

A DNA test reportedly would enable a pathologist establish the identity of the person whose skull was on sale.
