RE: How long have you lived in Thailand for?

Without major interruptions I've been in Korat for 18 years now. No intention to change that status. I like it. With my funds I can do here what back in Germany they were definitely too limited for. So 18 years ago I broke away from my somehow narrow existance to new and wider perspectives here. No repentance at all.

RE: How long have you lived in Thailand for?

Kinda Hard to answer that one precisely....

This last time and location for about 12 years,,,,,

Before that another location in CM, where I kept a family and was off back and forth overseas on projects for about the preceding 3 years

Before that CM at another location for 2 years

Before that Phuket area for about 3 years...

So all in all I have considered Thailand home for about 20 years

Still maintain a couple places in the US, go back to visit every year or two for some time, but in my heart this is home. I really do not fit back there,,,, actually, don't want too......... to much that I do not agree with back there....

I keep saying that soon I'll sell out and ???????

RE: How long have you lived in Thailand for?

Less than a Year. I feel like a kid hanging out with the old folks.. Icon_mrgreen

Spent most of my time in Chiang Mai and Phayao. When I got married I had to return to Canada to do my wife's Canadian Permanent residence leaving her in Thailand and it took 10 months.. Icon_mad We wanted to have a child and wanted it born in Canada (a successful project, and he has dual Thai-Canadian citizenship) and I wanted Luck to get her Canadian citizenship (she is now eligible to apply). Once she has her Canadian citizenship we will be free to move back to Thailand, hopefully for good.

I've talked to so many people that have visa problems because of changes or being caught in the undertow that I wanted to have some fixed base to go to in the event I lost my visa. Most important to me, I wanted the family to be able to move with me and have no problems in the event that we had to leave Thailand for some reason. Both my wife and my son (has now) will have dual Thai-Canadian citizenship & passports soon. Getting Thai PR or citizenship for me seemed to be almost an impossibility.
