Jang flys with seven birdies

SOUTH Korea's Jeong Jang fired a six-under-par 66 to take a three-shot lead after the third round of the $US1.2 million ($1.58 million) LPGA Corning Classic todayv (AEST).

Jang, who started the day two strokes behind Thailand's Virada Nirapathpongporn, climbed to the top of the leaderboard with a round that included seven birdies and just one bogey.

It tied fellow Korean Seon Hwa Lee for the lowest of the day and Jang is at 15-under 201 after 54 holes.

Nirapathpongporn will need to rally to pick up her first LPGA victory following a one-under 71.

She won twice in 15 events on the Futures Tour last season to finish second on the money list and earn her tour card.

Nirapathpongporn, who won the US collegiate title in 2002 as a student at Duke University as well as the 2003 US Women's Amateur, played the front at one-over before settling down to card a pair of birdies on the back side.

Tied with Nirapathpongporn for second is Nancy Scranton (70) and Brandie Burton (70).
