German Bundesliga Roundup, Dec. 13

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Sami Khedira scored his second goal in injury time Saturday for Stuttgart to draw 2-2 with 10-man Bayern Munich, which took the provisional lead of the Bundesliga in the final round before the winter break.

Hoffenheim, the promoted provincial team, only needs a draw Sunday at home against Schalke to finish the first half of the season ahead of the defending champions as it has a better goal difference.

Bayern has 35 points and Hoffenheim 34. Hertha Berlin moved up to third with a 4-0 rout of Karlsruhe SC.

Bayern extended its unbeaten run to 16 games in all competitions, but Juergen Klinsmann's team struggled without star playmaker Franck Ribery, who was out with a shoulder injury.

Defender Massimo Oddo was sent off in the 85th minute for a high, feet-first charge into Christian Traesch, a ruling that Klinsmann called wrong and decisive.

"It put us into a difficult situation. There was no intention, Massimo didn't even see him," Klinsmann said. "It's a pity to concede a goal so late, but now we'll take a deserved vacation and come back."

After Khedira's first goal in first-half injury time, Tim Borowski scored for Bayern and then set up Luca Toni for his ninth goal of the season to put Bayern ahead.

In other games, Werder Bremen edged Wolfsburg 2-1, Hamburger SV beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0, FC Cologne won 2-1 at VfL Bochum, Hannover and Arminia Bielefeld drew 1-1, and Jiayi Shao scored in injury time to give Energie Cottbus a stunning 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen.

Klinsmann's homecoming to Stuttgart proved to be no joy on the field. Khedira's goal capped an aggressive first half by the home side, which outplayed the defending champion.

The goal came after a corner and Khedira scored with a diving header despite the presence of several Bayern defenders.

Bayern rallied after the break, with Borowski taking advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who dropped a shot by Bastian Schweinsteiger and Borowski prodded the ball across the line.

Borowski set up Toni's goal in the 66th with a low cross to the far post. Toni beat two defenders to the ball and it bounced off his calf into the net, with Lehmann helpless this time.

Stuttgart didn't give up and equalized three minutes into injury time after a corner. Bayern goalkeeper Michael Rensing, under pressure from Lehmann who had come away from his goal, punched the ball poorly and it fell in front of Khedira, who fired a volley into the roof of the net.

"It was important not to lose," Khedira said. "We fought until the end."

Stuttgart, the 2007 champion, remained unbeaten in three Bundesliga games under new coach Markus Babbel, a former Bayern defender in his first coaching job.

"We deserved to lead after the first half and we tried everything to win," Babbel said.

Bremen beat Wolfsburg on an own-goal by Wolfsburg captain Josue, who was hit by a cross and inadvertently redirected the ball into his own net after Per Mertesacker had equalized for Bremen.

China striker Shao hit the crossbar before netting the equalizer deep into injury time to earn struggling Cottbus a draw in Leverkusen, which had gone ahead through Simon Rolfes.

Mladen Petric scored the only goal for Hamburg in the win over hapless Frankfurt, while Artur Wichniarek notched his 10th goal of the season to salvage the 1-1 draw in Hannover.

Cologne won in Bochum despite finishing the match with nine men, following the late dismissals of Pedro Geromel and Milivoje Novakovic. With Cologne still only one man down, Manasseh Ishiaku scored the winning goal in the 87th minute.
