Costs of Electrical Appliances

If you like to know roughly how much some of your electrical appliances are costing to run here's a useful site. It'll mean more to those living on the UK as prices are in sterling, though of course anyone can get an idea from just looking at the figures.

Quote:Curious about the cost of powering your PVR, set-top box, Home Hub and other household equipment?

We covered watts and power consumption in Show 30. We'd encourage you to take a listen to the MP3 of the show.

As promised in the show, here's a handy table of costs, plus some tips on how to bring down your electricity bills.

Ou of interest, I hear conflicting views on this. I did have a router for my computer, but now have a 'hub' from BT - the BT Home Hub v2.0.

Should the hub be left on all the time, rather than switching it on and off every day?

It won't hurt it to turn it off, but I just leave mine running - especially since I run my own mail server. Wink

The BT Home Hub v2.0. can be configured from a browser so that it can switch to 'powersave' between times that are selected by the user.

Not sure the savings make it worthwhile, and I also worry that what happens if the timings go out of synch if there's been a power failure and I can't get back on to the computer to do anything about it.

I suppose then I'd have to wait for it to come back on full power, unless of course there's an override on the hub itself.
