Bomb incidents at ruling TRT Party headquarters, security upgraded

BANGKOK, June 24 (TNA) - Two bomb incidents targeting the ruling Thai Rak Thai (TRT) Party's headquarters here were reported early Saturday morning, prompting the party's security squad to step up its protective measures to deal with possible incidents in the future.

The first incident took place at about 01:00 a.m. when a plastic bomb was thrown into the TRT head office on Bangkok's New Petchaburi Road, but the device failed to explode.

About 40 minutes later, two unidentified perpetrators, again, threw the second plastic bomb into the TRT Party building, causing a loud explosion.

No casualties or damage were reported from the bomb blast.

Police investigators rushing to the scene from nearby Makkasan Police Station told journalists that such the plastic explosives are normally used for special effects in shooting films and causes no harm and damage.

The police investigators said it appeared that the perpetrators only wanted to create an atmosphere of fear.

The party's security team is, nonetheless, on alert with stepped up security measures to deal with, possibly, repeated incidents at the party headquarters in the future.
