World Cup 2010: Del Bosque defends Spain tactics

Spain 0-1 Switzerland

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque said his side will not change their attacking style despite a shock defeat by Switzerland in World Cup Group H.

The European champions were pre-tournament favourites to win the World Cup but Gelson Fernandes' goal handed the Swiss a win in their opening game.

"We have arrived up to here playing a certain way and we will not lose our identity," said Del Bosque.

Spain's next opponents, Honduras, were beaten 1-0 by Chile on Wednesday.

Del Bosque's side dominated possession against the Swiss, with midfielder Xabi Alonso hitting the crossbar.

But after failing to find the critical breakthrough, Fernandes capitalised on a poor piece of goalkeeping from Iker Casillas to bundle home and subject Spain to only their second defeat in 49 games.

And Del Bosque said his side must "find a way" to win their two remaining group games.

"Today wasn't our day," added the former Real Madrid boss . "We have two games ahead of us. We have to find a way to win them."

"We tried in an orthodox way and in an heroic way but we were not able to score."

But while the Spain boss saluted Switzerland's defensive display he insisted his side had deserved victory in Durban.
