Bono Says He's "Overpaid" - cyrano - 03-15-2009 05:46 AM by Kate Harper (CHARTattack) Bono recently admitted he was overpaid when he told the USA Today newspaper that illegal downloading "offended" him. The U2 singer said he takes issue with downloading because it results in huge losses for musicians who aren't as financially stable as himself. "People think people like me are overpaid and overnourished, and they're not wrong," he told the newspaper. "What they're missing is, how does a songwriter get paid? There's no space for a Cole Porter in the modern age. "It's not the place for rich rock stars to ask for more money, but somebody should fight for fellow artists because this is madness. Music has become tap water, a utility, where for me it's a sacred thing, so I'm a little offended." U2's No Line On The Horizon was downloaded at least 445,000 times before its March 3 release, according to USA Today. Although it debuted at the top of the U.S. album sales chart, it only sold 484,000 copies during its first week of release. Perhaps they can improve on that figure if the still-untitled "companion" album comes out later this year as expected. Maybe U2 will sell more tickets than records on their tour in support of No Line On The Horizon.
