I remember complaining alread on TT that these figures are misleading. It's not true that in countries like Thailand have a far lower percentage of the garbage is recycled. Only it doesn't get into the garbage into the first place. Many people here make a living of buying, yes buying, So of course there is little left from the garbage put on landfills that can be recycled. It went the way to recycling already long before the garbage was put on the landfill. Please don't give people the impression in poor countries people would waste brainlessly.

It was an article done by the University of Adelaide and the Advertiser, so I am sure that the figures would have been properly researched. In Thailand people in rural areas do a lot of recycling, the problem is in the major cities where bins are full of recyclable material as the working middle class and upper class could not be bothered recycling. Bottles and cans are collected by people but plastic and green waste are left in the bins. Also Thais have a bad habit of throwing all their waste out the window when driving along, including recyclable materials
