Quote:SBPAC chief admits it could take 20 years more to solve southern insurgency

Phranai Suwannarat, the director of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, admitted Saturday that it could take 20 more years to solve the southern insurgency.

Speaking at a seminar in Hat Yai, Phranai said the southern problem was more serious and complicated than he could solve it on alone.

He said the problems could not be solved in the current generation.

"We have to set our hope to see the problem solved in 2027 or in 20 years," he said.

He said the problem was complicated and unique because it involved about 2 million people, who have been affected.

He said it required special administration that responded to the need of local people to solve the problem.

The Nation

But the PM said.........

Quote:PM says southern situation improves

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said the situation in the deep South has improved with the number of major violent incidents declining.

Speaking to the Poed Ban Phitsanulok TV programmed aired Saturday morning, Surayud said the statistics clearly showed that the situation had improved.

Surayud attributed the improvement to the measures by security officials to frequently raid houses of suspects and question them.

The Nation

Perhaps he did not see this morning's paper..

Quote:Soldier wounded in Narathiwat bombing

(BangkokPost.com) - One soldier received eye and arm injuries when a roadside bomb exploded on Monday morning in Narathiwat's Rue Soh district.

The soldier was inspecting a previous bombing site in the area before his attackers set off another explosion.

Shortly before the attack, Narathiwat and Yala provinces were rocked by more than 40 violent attacks using explosive devices and road spikes. The roadside bombs were planted along major routes in 12 districts.

If 40 violent attacks today is classed as "improved with the number of major violent incidents declining" he definitely has his head up his behind. The situation has clearly worsened and intensified since September and no amount of fudging the numbers can get the statistics to clearly show that the situation had improved.

On the lighter side of things ...from a naughty boy's point of view :-

because it involved about 2 million people, who have been affected.
Move the decimal place forward by one point, "it takes 2 years to solve the southern insurgency because then we would have decimated the 1.8 million people, leaving only 200,000 people."

Quote:The situation in the deep South has improved with the number of major violent incidents declining.
It has improved, because there are only trees, mountains and hill there in the deep south I was referring to, maybe a rubber tapper or 2 being shot at the most."

Lightning does strike twice in the same place!
