The first translation of Gilgamesh ever that really grabbed me. I have fought through the plodding, boring translations (mostly in prose) before, and left feeling like archaeologists should be more bored people in the world.
When George, however, in verse, and adds strength to what seems to me, for years, to be a nice jump on the epics of the largest and the best of times at a later date. I flew through this translation, and commentary on his every word, and was almost sad to see it end.
And the observations were critical to resolving the spectrum as well, and many of the gaps and showed me how just a little of the story we really have. Sad, really, and it made them appreciate the people you're bored pathetic.
If you're new to the Epic of Gilgamesh, and want to participate, reading and translation of the verse, and this is one of the purchase.
Highly recommended.
