Some people dress to impress and wear traditional European clothing, others couldn't care and wear a T shirt, shorts and flip flops
What do you wear around the house, when going out and at work?

What heck is,
'traditional European clothing?'
To the best of my knowledge, clothes worn daily are fairly international in western society.

I fully agree with that. Besides that, the only notable differences depend on the season and the climate which varies from place to place and day to day in Europe.

lol

I guess things like Dutch Clogs, Scottish Kilts, German Lederhosen etc

Still remember when, in 1989, my hosts (from Hamburg) asked directions of a Lederhosen-clad Münchner and smiled and nodded, thanked the man and waited for him to get out of sight before looking for someone else from whom to ask directions...
... He didn't understand a word that was said!

I don't need to wear Lederhosen for not understanding Plattdeutsch, and I grew up in between Hamburg and München. Of course bavarian is a foreign language to me too. Maybe your hosts didn't understand him either.

Oh, it was my host that didn't understand the Bayrish!

You may be right, I suppose all Aussies wear broad brimmed hats with corks dangling from them?
