Here`s a question for Aussies. I`m in the UK, and of course I can tell dialects from different parts of my country.

Now, I often find it difficult to distinguish between Canadians and Americans (apart from the obvious southern drawl in the south of the US.)

Question to Aussies, can you tell the difference between Australians and New Zealanders, or sometimes are you unsure of where some one comes from?
lol good question Geoff Icon_mrgreen All Aussies can pick Kiwis straight away as they say things like "Fush and Chups" Most Aussies can also pick a VIC (Victorians) as their accent is totally different to the rest of Oz Icon_razz
i cant pick between a victorian and someone from another state...
I can tell the difference straight away when an Aussie or New Zealander comes on telly here in the States. It's very easy, but I can't pick where someone comes from within Australia. If they come from the outback or live out west you can tell a little. They seem to be thicker or broader in the way they speak. But NZer's are easy, as admin says.. and they'll say sex for six... So N.Zs say sex for six, and Aussies say six for sex. Why can`t either of them say sex for sex, and six for six like us British do? lol

Just kidding, you should hear some of the dialects we have over here in the UK, even we have a job understanding some of them. Icon_mrgreen
Here in the UK we have Strictly Come Dancing, where celebs are teamed up with professional dancers.

This year there was a new addition to the professionals, and very nice too! Big Grin

Unfortunately Hayley is now out, as the couple were voted off last week. Weird to hear her talk, and I STILL can`t tell New Zealanders apart from Aussies. Icon_cheesygrin

Mark Foster is arguably the most successful swimmer Britain has ever produced. Six times a World Champion, his bulging trophy cabinet holds 10 European Champion medals and two Commonwealth Champion medals. He has also broken eight world records in his career.

August 2008 saw Mark compete in his fifth Olympic games - recognising this feat, Mark was voted by his team-mates as the Team GB member who would carry the British flag at the Olympic Opening ceremony.
Hayley Holt

Hailing from Auckland, Hayley joins the Strictly roster for the first time this year. She started ballroom and latin dancing at the age of seven, and her accolades include New Zealand Professional Ballroom Champion.

Hayley thinks it's hard to remember that Ballroom and Latin dancing are such a foreign concept for the celebrities: "I try not to hit them with too much information straight away."

My old Kiwi buddy lives in Melbourne and he's been in Oz for so long that he's lost his accent and sounds like a native.

Unless one has an idea how both accents sound, it's impossible to tell them apart.
In the UK, there are too many accents to name and it's pretty similar in any country.

Where I live now, there are three different Spanish languages spoken and myriad accents, they vary from village to village.
