After the recent shootings in the US, should the Government further toughen gun laws in Australia?

Vote and have your say!

los

This is a tragedy but lets not confuse a tragedy with political misinformation. In Australia gun laws are ridiculously tight, with the average person unable to defend himself or his family against any predator.

Gun liscensing should occur, and probably even psych evaluations, but limiting guns so people can not defend themselves creates a victim society, whereby people are bound to be a victim as society can not prevent criminals from their activities.
But why would anyone need guns? I don`t mean the police, or for hunting purposes, but surely the man in the street shouldn`t have any need of a pistol, or M16.
Criminals who sell or possess firearms on the black market should be locked up without any hope of release. Societies willingness to treat the criminals with kid gloves whilst victims are discarded is what makes a mockery of our legal system.

Time to get REALLY tough, else it will be our children and grandchildren who will inherit the problems that are a result of our inability to confront violence and indiference with the right messages.
