Peter Crouch netted a hat-trick, despite missing a penalty, as England eased past Jamaica with a 6-0 victory.

The visitors were poor as England romped home, but Crouch seized his opportunity to press his claim for a starting spot at the World Cup.

England did not take long to get off the mark after Crouch nodded a long ball into Michael Owen's path. Owen flicked the ball over his head and Frank Lampard swept a bobbling ball into the net.

Within minutes the lead was doubled from a David Beckham free-kick. The England captain whipped in a dangerous ball and Jermaine Taylor headed the ball into his own net.

It was soon 3-0. Beckham's corner was half cleared and Crouch's goal bound effort was deflected in.

On the half hour England made it a rout when Owen made it 4-0. Rio Ferdinand's long ball put Owen in and he cleverly flicked it beyond the keeper before running round the other side, collecting the ball and rolling it into an unguarded net.

The game eased off after the interval, but England scored two excellent goals. Beckham played a perfectly weighted ball to the on-rushing Jamie Carragher and his low cross was met by Crouch.

Crouch then had the chance to complete an England hat-trick after Owen went down in the box. The Liverpool striker went for a cheeky chip down the middle but ballooned the ball over the cross bar.

He took his next chance though. Stewart Downing played the ball into Owen and his sharp square pass found Crouch on the edge of the area. The lanky front-man curled the ball firmly into the bottom corner to make it 6-0.
